GETTING STARTED...
The first step is always the hardest. Because of that Bear Press has a special beginner's package to help you get going. The start-up is really a mini-tutorial where we ask questions designed to bring focus to your project, starting from the most general themes, then gradually zeroing in on specific stuff. By the end you should have a general outline, and, if you've done your homework, you should have a small section written. In the process you will find out far more about what you are doing, and what it will take to finish it. At that point you may want to continue with it on your own, or you may want to work further with us.
The start-up package is priced at $350. It entails sets of questions leading to your outline, an editorial critique of your outline, then a line-by-line edit of one section of writing of up to 5000 words (about 18-24 double-spaced pages with normal margins and fonts).
Before we can begin the start-up we need to know a few basics (this part is free):
If you answer these questions as well as you can it may help you focus your project. That will help us. If you would like to work with us, send us an e-mail with answers to these questions. With your answers we can tailor a start-up package for your book. If you want, we may be able to describe some of the possible options available further down the line. The initial contact is free. To do that all you have to do is:
If you'd like to talk to us first, call:

1. Is your book fact or fiction?
2. If it's fact, what kind of book is it? memoir? family history? how-to? self-help? philosophy? cookbook? If it's fiction, what kind? mainstream? mystery? sci-fi? romance? horror? literary? Can you summarize what it is about?
3. Have you done any work on it so far? If so, tell us what you have done in a paragraph or two.
4. How long do you want it to be when it is in published form?
5. Will there be photographs? drawings? charts? maps?
6. How much work are you willing to put in on it? What do you expect from your editor/ghostwriter? .
